Reverse osmosis (RO) is considered to be adequately reliable and efficient method of water purification. It is capable of removing small impurities of 0.0001 micron size cleansing water of various biological impurities, suspended particles. Furthermore, this process is capable of removing other dissolved solids (TDS), salts, fluorides, metals and chemicals.

Plus, this process is described as a membrane separation process in which feed water flows along the membrane surface under pressure. Moreover, the process continues; the purified water then permeates the membrane and is collected. The process moves on and the collected water which does not flow through the membrane is discharged to the drain. The resultant system capacity is completely dependent on water temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS) in feed water, operating pressure and the overall recovery of the system.

The six stage cleaning process:

• Stage 1: Sediment filter removes physical and suspended impurities such as sand, dust and rust etc.
• Stage 2: Anticipate removes chemical hardness
• Stage 3: GAC - Granular Activated Carbon removes colors and free chlorine in the water and also absorbs organics on its surfaces
• Stage 4: This stage implies a protective mechanism to preserve the highly sensitive RO membrane
• Stage 5: The Advanced thin film composite Reverse Osmosis membrane removes dissolved salts, heavy metal micro-organisms and other chemical impurities to drain
• Stage 6: The Post Filter & Polisher keeps a check on the growth of bacteria at the point of use and restores the natural taste of water

Advantages of RO over conventional Processes:

• Compared with conventional water treatment processes
• Reverse osmosis is one of the highly efficient means needed for removing salts, chemical contaminants and heavy metals, such as lead, arsenic from drinking water. For waters with TDS of 200 or more, reverse osmosis is preferred over ion exchange for removal of silica and organics.
• Compared with distillation
• Reverse osmosis uses only a fraction of the total energy and does not have high temperature problems of scaling and corrosion. Today reverse osmosis systems have proven to be the most economical and efficient means of improving the quality of water.
